1. Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. 2. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

Matthew 26:36-46

By the eternal laws of God, the soul that sins shall die. Hence, any time the enemy moves against man, he seeks not his spirit or body but the soul, to destroy. When he moved against Job, he shattered his spirit, broke his body so as just to make him deny God and thereby forfeit his soul, but he failed. The pursuit of the enemy therefore is nothing more than the soul. No wonder the Bible says the spirit and the flesh war against one another for the soul. The Lord Jesus Christ recognized this. Though He was born as the Son of Man, He knew that His soul must not be lost to the enemy and therefore, when at the critical time His Spirit and body were to be mesmerized for His soul, He sought to do the will of the Father by surrendering His Spirit and body but refusing to let the enemy win His soul. All the battles waged by the enemy is to capture the soul. Sexual immorality, lying, pride, evil concupiscence, pain, oppression, suppression etc. are all aimed at the victim that he may “curse” God. The soul that curses God has its judgment already. Job had it so tough, yet he didn’t give the enemy what he desired. He triumphed in the end. Not only did he gain his soul, he also regained his body and spirit back.

When it appears that the enemy is winning the battle of life against you, never despair. Like Job, David and Jesus Christ, lift your soul unto the Lord to whom the said soul will answer in the end. When you do so, like He preserved theses ones, God will also preserve you. It is better to lose every other thing and have the soul preserved. When in eternity you are with the Lord, you will have a new body with the Holy Spirit Himself dwelling in you, if you do not lose your soul to damnation.

SOLUTION: Never give in to the enemy. His dats and arrows are targeted at your soul. Don’t let him have it. Hold on to the promise of God. Never faint, never stop praising God no matter what. Endure to the end and you will never regret.

Father, you raised Joseph from being a slave and subsequently prisoner into becoming a Prime Minister. Every attempt of the enemy to entrap his soul, you foiled by your Spirit. From now on dear Lord, every effort of the devil to ensnare our souls please foil by your power in the name of Jesus Christ. As we lift up our souls unto you this day, please help to preserve our souls that we may never deny you no matter what, in Jesus’ name. As you have promised not to allow us be tempted beyond what we can bear, please dispel every temptation that appears to be stifling our souls already now, in Jesus’ name. Thank you, mighty God.
