10. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2 Peter 3:10-16
A keen observer of life will find that there is nothing on earth that leaves the earth. Man was molded from the earth; he ends up as dust in the earth upon death; every water scorched up by the sun returns to the earth as rain; every mineral put to use to become technological substances end up in decay upon the earth. The earth itself however shall melt someday away without repair. Incidentally, when it shall so melt, it will be with those operating in it. They are categorized as members of the wicked world. Wicked in that they did not reckon with God as they refuse to obey His commands. And in that they had no compassion towards fellow beings. The heaven also will pass away as it will be melted with fervent heat. Whao! What then shall be the position of those who dwell in righteousness. Oh yes! There will be for them a new heaven and a new earth. This is made vivid from our analogy of the Mountain Zion, the mountain of God’s holiness. On the day of the Lord, the earth is to be transformed from darkness back to light like it was when God commanded the light to be in the beginning. The place of light and the place of darkness are then merged as one with the presence of God supplying the light. So, the mountain which the elect needed to climb following the light-way provided by Christ will be made to be a plain where there is no longer a need for a separation as the man of darkness and his lieutenants would have been dealt with.
There is a future and a hope. That future is preserved for those who love God and do fear Him. There is nothing in this current world that is worth dying for. Dying is turning our backs on God. Whatever we think we have or are, it ends within a twinkling of an eye. Those that were acclaimed rich over a century ago are majorly forgotten, even by their direct descendants. But there is a memorial for every one that lives a just life. Their names are written in the book of life and they will rule and reign in the new heaven and the new earth. Will you be counted among?
