Our Help And Deliverer

Focus: Psalms 40:17 - KJV

17. But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

1 Peter 5:6-10

The humble man realizes or knows that he has nothing upon the earth as whatever he may possess comes from the belongings of the Most High and therefore, cannot be compared with the Lord’s possession. If then, the one who owns all things can still be kind enough to think of him who is ordinarily poor compared to God, it is a great privilege. And since God gives grace to the humble, it is not surprising to note that those who realize their beings and humble themselves before Him, receive help from the Lord and He delivers them from all their troubles, noting that by their submission to God, they are able to resist the devil, who is man’s eternal enemy and the one who seeks to destroy him.

David was king in Israel. He was in control of men and power. Yet, he never counted himself to be anything before the Lord. His humility was so pronounced to the extent that, despite the seeming prowess of his army, their exploits in battle and so on, he knew that without the Lord they would not be so successful, and therefore gave the honor to the Lord acknowledging Him as his helper and deliverer. Some other kings did not so honor God and got themselves destroyed in battle where they had succeeded hitherto, when the Lord was on their side.

The Lord is watching and waiting for us to humble ourselves before Him. By that humility we are considered to have submitted unto Him and through such submission, He would equip us with the power to resist the devil so that he may flee from us. In other words, since God does not do evil, every bad thing that happens to us emanates from the devil. If only we would submit to God from today, when we resist the devil and he flees from us, all the evil occurrences also shall cease automatically. It is our carriage of being so big that often times, rob us of the help and deliverance from God. Yet, the Lord is waiting for us with His hands stretched out to receive us, if only we would turn to Him, in humility.

SOLUTION: Let us come down from the back of that high horse that makes us seem larger than large and humble ourselves before the Almighty by submitting unto Him through obedience. He is bound to help and deliver us if we do.

Please pray:

·      Give thanks to God for being your help and deliverer in the past

·      Ask God to forgive you wherever you have been observed to not have been humble before Him

·      Pray that the Lord by His mercy will remain your helper and deliverer better than ever, such that from now on, as you resist the devil, he flees from you

·      Ask God to please show forth in your present situation and put the devil to shame over your life and affairs

·      Humbly ask for your daily bread and pledge to remain humble before the Lord evermore
