Focus: 1 Samuel 18:12 - KJV
12. And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
1 Samuel 18:15-29
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. When God is operating in the life of an individual, it is always better to align with the said individual so as to be a partaker of the benefit that flows from the grace that is bestowed on him, rather than operating in antagonism of the fellow. Antagonizing him will constantly bring some form of reprisal from the one who loves him. When we see the hands of God in an affair, the tendency is to bring some terror or fear of the favored person and this was the occurrence between king Saul and the lad, David.
David was an innocent individual who was drawn into the rivalry between Saul and Samuel and, by extension God. Samuel had rejected Saul for usurping the priestly office aside from not destroying the Amalekites and all their possession, as directed; God was going to fulfil the words of His representative by replacing Saul and therefore found and anointed David. Saul envied and hated David for showing signs of being favored of God and because he knew what such favor portends for the bearer, he was afraid of the lad David who had no mean stature or pose any threat, as it were. Unfortunately, the fear in Saul made him to move constantly against David in whom God was delighted and whom God defended. Rather than stop, Saul continued to seek to kill David, thereby pitching against God, and eventually met his waterloo.
A warning is out from the Lord for us, particularly as believers, to pursue peace with all men. If we observe that a person appears more favored of the Lord than ourselves, our position should not be to seek his destruction but to continue to support him with prayers that he may succeed, while we seek to know what to do for the Lord to also favor us that we may equally succeed. Those who pitch against the favored of God seek the trouble of God. For He rebukes kings for their sakes saying, touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm. The fact that Saul was anointed did not give him the permission to tamper with the anointed David. Hence, since we do not know who is anointed or who is not, it is important we refrain from battling with any in envy so as not to pitch against the Lord in the same’s life.
SOLUTION: Everyone has his life to live and goals are never the same. To excel in life and not move against God, endeavor not to move against anyone. Let love be the driver and motivation for all your actions.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for all He has given you as a person
· Ask that God forgives you in places where envy had moved you against someone who appeared more favored
· Please ask God to bestow you with the kind of grace that will cause your neighbors to marvel at your progress and want to be like you
· Ask God to please prevent you from moving against anyone for whatever reason
· Please ask for your daily bread for today
