Salvation, Not Wrath

Focus: 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 KJV - For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

God's definitive plan for His children is not judgment, anger, or condemnation. The terrifying wrath of God against sin is something believers are completely exempt from. Our true appointment is rescue, deliverance, and eternal life, purchased entirely through the ultimate sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us. Whether be physically alive on this earth, or "sleep" or die physical death, it is, for us a flawless win-win reality: our physical state does not change our ultimate security. Whether we are alive when Christ returns or have already passed away, our safe arrival is identical - we should live together with him.

The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah had reached an absolute peak of wickedness, and wrath was officially scheduled to rain down in fire and brimstone from heaven. Although Lot had made poor choices by living in such a corrupt environment, but because he was a righteous man who was vexed by the filthy conversation of the wicked, he belonged to God, and was fundamentally not appointed to face that fire. When morning came and the judgment was imminent, Lot hesitated. Knowing the strict appointment of grace over Lot's life, the angels literally grabbed his hand, that of his wife, and his daughters, dragging them out of the city. The angels told him they could do absolutely nothing until he was safe. Lot was completely delivered from the physical manifestation of wrath, proving that God knows exactly how to rescue His own from judgment.

As believers in Christ, our eternity is completely settled. We do not have to live in fear of God's final judgment or panic about the future. Christ absorbed 100% of the wrath we deserved on the cross, ensuring that no matter what happens to our physical body—whether we live or die—our appointment with absolute salvation is completely unshakeable. That is if as believers we live by the Spirit and not the flesh.

Prayer

Father, I thank you for your love for me that made you give Jesus Christ for my ransom. The grace never to return to my vomit so that I may be saved ultimately, please bestow on me today. Do not let any work of the flesh draw me away from your ultimate plan for my life. Let me never encounter your wrath whether now or in the other life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
