Sleep Not

Focus: 1 Thessalonians 5:5-8 - KJV

5. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-9

The day of the Lord is at hand. Like He said to us, it shall be without notice, sudden and like a thief in the night. When the Lord shall appear only they that are expectant and ready shall be saved. Those who are not and fail to keep vigil shall be damned. A thief that goes for an operation does so, except if unduly daring, in the night and unannounced, otherwise the house owner would specially prepare and put up some resistance. At night because, the house dwellers are expected to be asleep and therefore vulnerable. If however, the dwellers keep vigil and sound an alarm upon sighting the thief or having a whiff of his arrival, the operation is made difficult and therefore abortive.

When the Lord shall come soon, He comes to separate the wheat from the chaff. The wheat is harvested into the barn while the chaff is burnt as waste. The Lord comes like a thief but is not a thief. Rather, He is the owner of the Vineyard. Those who are found wanting in their ways of life are considered sleepers who will be caught unawares by the owner of the vineyard who will call to question their stewardship. The fact of the second coming makes no sense to the simple just like it didn’t back then in the days of Noah. To be saved is to be vigilant at this time, watching out to avoid every trap of the enemy with clear sobriety so as not to miss out. We need therefore to be reinvigorated in our faith at this time seeing the signs are rife for without faith it is impossible to please God. We must allow our faith in Him who is Love to engender love in us towards our neighbors so that we may be like Him when He appears. Those who are not like Him will not be able to reign with Him and therefore will be left out. Love is critical in this equation.

Beloved, do you know what time it is? It is possible to make it when the Lord comes if you will acknowledge the signs as per His warning to us and yield to love in faith now. It will be gruesome loss and failure to have all these signs as they glare us in the face and still fall asleep. It is better to keep vigil forthwith to avoid being caught napping. I pray with you that the Lord gives you oil in your lamp and keep it burning that you may not sleep the sleep of death in the name of Jesus Christ. May you be found worthy of His embrace in the end in Jesus name. please keep the faith. Love, always!
