Stay Focused On God’s Promise

Focus: 2 Peter 3:13 – KJV: Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

The believer’s faith in the unseen God is what makes him a special being in the midst of unbelieving people of the world. As faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things unseen, the believer can only please the unseen God if and when he believes Him for His words. It is impossible for Him to lie. He has promised through many witnesses that He would release a new heaven and a new earth for the believers to thrive in. And because He cannot lie, our place as believers is to keep looking for the manifestation thereof.

God promised Abraham an incredible earthly inheritance. Yet, Abraham spent his entire life living in temporary tents, moving from place to place like a stranger in a foreign country. He never built a permanent stone palace or established a worldly empire. He was so contented with his nomadic living because he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Himself and the patriarchs desired a better country, that is, a heavenly. Abraham did not allow his heart to become rooted in the corrupt, temporary cities of his day (like Sodom and Gomorrah). He looked past the horizontal horizon and fixed his eyes on the vertical promise of God's future, righteous kingdom. He modeled the exact posture Peter commands: looking for a new, divinely manufactured home.

Today, the Lord is saying we need not shift our focus from the heavenly abode promised by the father. Even Christ made it abundantly clear that right there are many mansions. Albeit, the mansions and the heavenly city are preserved for only them that anticipate the coming of Christ and the truth of it. Let not the cares of this world take away the heavenly city from your glare. Stop dwelling on earth as if it is your permanent residence, there is a better place our God has promised us. Concentrate on the Lord’s promise and when it is brought to bear, you will not miss it.

Prayer:

Father, I know that your promises are Yea, and in you, Amen. Even though I do not see you, I acknowledge that you are and that you are a rewarder of them that diligently seek you. Please keep me focused on the promised heavenly city, by your Spirit, so that I may not miss it. Keep me in you to the very end that I may gain the new heaven and the new earth, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
