12. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Life on earth ends up in either of two destinations: eternal life or eternal damnation. Getting into eternal life is a rife battle that must be fought with absolute concentration and strict precision because there is already a trench that has been dug by the enemy that gulps up people and take them into eternal damnation. That trench is to be avoided like a plague for anyone that must make eternal life. The mind of God is that all souls make eternal life, but this horrible trench is drawing many the other way, and it must be avoided through determined fighting.
Many tried fighting but still ended in the trench like Judas Iscariot, Demas (perhaps) and many others who have been deceived. So many others appear to be fighting to keep themselves away from the trench but, somehow, they are beating the air or fighting shadows rather than fighting to move farther from the trench towards eternal life. They are those who pretend to be of Christ whereas they are never obeying His leading: some out of ignorance and many others out of negligence or for not being attentive. Of them is the scripture true that there is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof is the way of death (the trench).
Beloved, please be resolute about where you want to spend eternity. If in life, then you have to be deliberate about your fight against the forces that lure to the trench. All those vices that Christ spoke about are agents of the enemy drawing people to the trenches. Those who want to end up in damnation need no special caution as there is a free fall into the trench without much ado. It is however profitable for the soul of man to end in life which was God’s determination for him from the beginning. Please choose life.
SOLUTION: Do good and eschew evil; fear God and obey His commands; never yield to the luring of the devil as it only leads to a fall. Stick with Christ.
Father, we appreciate your provision of life eternal for all those that love you, and because we do love you, please grant us life with you in eternity in Jesus’ name. In any way we have been beating the air, please redirect us to fight aright in Jesus’ name. Do forgive all our past deeds that tended to damnation and keep us stable in the pursuit of life in Jesus’ name.
