Stop The Contradictions

Focus: 2 Kings 17:33 - KJV

33. They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.

2 Kings 17:24-33

There are many people who have seen and know that the Lord whom Jesus Christ presents is the true God, and that Christ is the way, the truth and the life. By this they tend to fear the same God, but then, they continue in their old ways serving and bowing to their strange gods. This presents a clear contradiction before the throne of God. Yet, God cannot be deceived. In truth, they are not of God. However, by reason of the respect they show to the living God, they appear to fear Him but operate in utter darkness.

This was the case when Israel fell into captivity in the hands of Babylon. The Israelis were sent out of their dwellings and replaced by strange men. Incidentally, since the new occupants of the land were not pleasing to the God who owns the land, He vacated their presence and by His absence, strange lions entered the land and killed people. The king then brought back a few Israeli faithful to appease their God and when this happened and the new dwellers were introduced to the way of the Lord, the devourer was no more. Yet, the strangers continued to serve their strange gods despite fearing God.

The Lord hates lukewarmness. He does not like that anyone sits on the fence. We are either on His side or we are not. When we identify fully with Him, He stands by us in the day of trouble. But those who will rather sit on the fence cause Him to withhold His hand from their matter at the most critical moment. He is therefore saying to us today that we make up our minds: if we must serve Him, it must be on a complete total basis, without keeping secret idols or allowing the same anywhere around us. We cannot be seen to fear God and serve other gods. We must rather fear God and serve Him, alone.
