32. It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
Psalms 18:30-34
In ancient times and even up till today in some climes, war is total. When a side has the victory, they eliminate even the offspring of the enemy so that they may not grow up to reenact the war. It is when it is thus complete and total that it is said to be perfect victory. This is the background from which the Psalmist drew his narration of making his way perfect. No man can have a perfect victory in the things of life except through the strength of the Lord. There is a way by which the Lord takes over the entire being of His anointed, from his brain to his physique, to guide his hands to battle and for victory. When it does happen, even the person involved is astonished at the result of his escapade knowing fully well that he could not have achieved the same by his own strength.
When David got to the battle field where he eventually confronted Goliath, he gave some deep testimonies. He claimed to have killed a lion and at another time a bear with his bare hands. Then he quickly quipped that it was the Lord that strengthened his hands to do same and that the same God would grant him perfect victory over the Philistine. The shepherd boy stepped forward with sling and stones wanting to face a giant and champion of war who had a sword and a shield borne by an armorbearer. Yet he ran towards the adversary and in the end, he got a perfect victory over Goliath. He did not leave him wounded but ensured Goliath would never stand to fight another battle.
The Lord is saying to us today that he still can strengthen our hands to war so that in all our endeavors in life, we may have perfect victory. However, we must not put our reliance on armors that can fail but on God who never fails. It is important we ensure in the battles of life that we do always carry with us the presence of God so that He may teach our hands to war such that a bow of steel, no matter how strong, can be broken by our arms, and He may set us on our high places. Hence, let us put our total trust and dependability on Him, and soon, we shall attain perfect victory through Christ.
