Success in the Secret Places

Focus:

"And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand." – Genesis 39:2–3 (KJV)

True success is not defined by our locational address, job title, or bank balance. True success is the presence of God in our lives. True prosperity does not come from our circumstances; it comes from our connection to the Almighty.

Our focus scripture presents a striking paradox. Joseph had been betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and taken to a foreign land. By the world's standards, he was a failure—a man who had lost everything. Yet, the Bible calls him a "prosperous man."

How can a slave be prosperous? The answer is found in five powerful words: "The Lord was with Joseph." Because God was with him, Joseph didn't complain about his menial tasks. He worked with such excellence that even a pagan master like Potiphar could see that there was something "other-worldly" about him. It is one thing for us to say God is with us; it is another thing for others to see it. Joseph’s life was a walking testimony. His master "saw that the Lord was with him." Even in a house of bondage, Joseph brought the atmosphere of heaven. God made "all that he did to prosper."

You may feel like you are in a "Potiphar’s house" today—a job you don't like, a difficult season, or a place where you feel unappreciated. Remember that God's presence is not restricted by your location. God’s presence matters more than your promotion. If He is with you, you are already successful. People are watching how we handle adversity. Let your work ethic and attitude be the proof that God is with you. Joseph didn't wait to get back to his father's house to be "prosperous." He was prosperous right where he was. Choose to do your most "ordinary" task today with "extraordinary" excellence. Whether it’s answering emails, cleaning the house, or running an errand, do it as if you are doing it directly for the Lord. How can you demonstrate God's presence through your attitude at work or at home today?

Prayer

Lord, I thank you that your presence is not limited by my circumstances. Whether I am on a mountaintop or in a valley, I am successful because you are with me. Help me to work with such excellence today that those around me will see your hand upon my life. May my attitude reflect your peace and my hands perform your will, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
