The Lord’s Banner

Focus: Song of Solomon 2:4 - KJV

4. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

Psalm 60:4-5

A banner, ordinarily means a long strip of cloth bearing a slogan or design, hung in a public place, carried in a demonstration or procession; or a piece of cloth attached by one edge to a staff used by a leader. When we speak of a banner in biblical terms however, it depicts the flag of the Lord or simply the Lord’s covering over someone. As it were, since all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, it is only by love that God can place His banner over us. It is like a giant towering over a dwarf. The shadow of the giant’s presence covers the entire being of the dwarf. That is what the banner of the Lord is over humans. To understand the workings of the banner, there is a need to study Isaiah 60 well. That banner is the glory of God rising upon the individual. By it, there is provision, protection, wellness, honor, exaltation, deliverance, victory, companionship and it is extended to generations. What manner of love is that? This God is our lover and brings us to the banquet preparing thereat, a table before us in the presence of our enemies. To qualify for this banqueting house through the Lord’s banner, we must fear the Lord. Fear is not necessarily terror but hold Him in awe and obey Him always for His truth.

Beloved, life can be sweeter and better than what we are experiencing now. The way to the sweeter things is through the banner of God. If we will do His will, God will never leave us to squalor. There are great benefits in having the Lord’s banner over us. Think about it: Solomon had the banner and kings brought him presents and sought to hear his wisdom. Indeed, in his kingdom, silver was treated like stones lying on the streets. He enjoyed peace from his neighbors and his enemies dared not draw the swords while he lived. The same can be our testimony today if we accord God His rightful place in our lives.

SOLUTION: Love the Lord and fear Him. By so doing, you draw near unto Him. He has promised to also draw near if you took the first step. When you achieve this, His banner tabernacles over you. Then will the saying be true for you that if God be for us, who can be against us?

Father, we seek your banner this day more than ever. Please, by your love, let your banner tabernacle over our lives from now on better than ever in Jesus’ name. Let the blessings derivable under your banner start flowing in to us from today in Jesus’ name. We promise to love you forever by your Spirit in Jesus’ name.
