The mercy of Jesus Christ

Key verse: Jude 1:21

Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

1 Peter 1:3-5

It is by the mercies of God that we are not consumed. It is by the same mercy that He gave His only begotten son to die for us while we were yet sinners and filthy. Having died for us, He expects us to be like Him in purity. He is aware of the hardship in the world having lived in the same clime experiencing everything we are experiencing and more, yet not denying the Father. Hence, we do not have in Him a High Priest who cannot be touched with our infirmities. With His experience therefore, He knows that the flesh is constantly at war with the spirit wanting to take over our souls. It is therefore possible from time to time to yield the soul to the flesh out of lack of knowledge or some other form of foolishness. For this, He makes His mercy available to us still. But we must be sure to continue in His love to be entitled to His mercy in this wise. This is different from that which we received while we were yet sinners. Because we are now born of Him and there is no unrighteousness in Him, He expects no unrighteousness in us either. If, however, while making effort to continue in His love, there is a stumbling or falling, His mercy avails.

Christ can keep us by His mercy unto eternal life if we strive to continue in His love. John Mark was a companion of Paul in his missionary journeys. At a point, he appeared to have resented Mark perhaps for some noticeable flaws and allowed him to go with Barnabas. But subsequently, Paul requested that the same Mark be sent to join his team again saying he was profitable to him in ministry. Mercy located him and kept him in the crucial journey to eternal life in Christ Jesus.

We too may have struggle with certain aspects of life after having declared for Jesus. The enemy does not want us to make it to eternal life; he seeks that we be damned with him in eternity. Our main hope is to continue in the love of Christ, who, having been merciful to us from the beginning will show us mercy again that we may reign with Him in eternity. We are assured of life in Him if we will not falter. God looks at our intent in all we do. If He finds that we made a mistake honestly, mercy will prevail. Look to Him in love, always.

Pray: Father, I do love you. Please let your mercy prevail over my faults in the journey of life in the name of Jesus. Help me to be with you in eternal life in Jesus name.
