The Only Boast That Matters

Scripture:
"But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD." – Jeremiah 9:24 (KJV)
God has warned us not to "glory" or boast in the things the world prizes most: human wisdom, physical might, or material riches. While these things are gifts from God, they are temporary and often lead to a dangerous sense of self-sufficiency. Our text shifts our focus to the only pursuit with eternal value: understanding and knowing God. This isn't just an intellectual "knowing about" God, like memorizing facts about a celebrity; it is an intimate, experiential relationship. God reveals three specific traits He delights in: His steadfast, covenant love that never fails; His perfectly fair rule and defense of the oppressed; and His moral purity and commitment to doing what is right.
True significance is found when we stop building our identity on what we have achieved and start anchoring it in who God is. When we know Him, we begin to delight in the very things He delights in, transforming how we treat every person we meet. Pride in our own abilities is "striving after wind"; true joy comes from boasting in the Lord’s character. Eternal life is defined as knowing the only true God personally (John 17:3). We are called to reflect His kindness, justice, and righteousness in our daily interactions.
Examine where you place your confidence today. If your "boast" is in your job title, bank account, or intelligence, take a moment to surrender those to God. Choose one of God’s attributes—lovingkindness, judgment, or righteousness—and look for a specific opportunity to exercise it in your community this week. How can you deepen your personal knowledge of God's character through His Word today?
Prayer
Almighty Father, help me to see through the "refuges of lies" that suggest my worth comes from my wisdom, strength, or wealth. I hunger to truly understand and know You—not just facts about You, but Your heart. Thank You for Your steadfast love and Your perfect justice. Teach me to delight in what delights You, that my life may be a true reflection of Your righteousness on this earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Please share. God bless you
