The Righteous Father

Focus: Hebrews 6:10 - KJV

10. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Genesis 38:11-27

Happy Father’s Day to every male user of this Guide. If you are already a father, the Lord will reward your good works as the care givers of His heritage, in Jesus’ name; and if you are yet to be, God will make you a great and successful father with children that would make you proud in Jesus’ name. The mind of God is that all of us, His children be like Him as fathers to everyone He has committed to our hands. God is righteous and faithful to recompense every one of us, His children, for all our doings unto the brethren, in obedience to His instructions. In the same manner, He expects us as fathers to be righteous and faithful in honoring those of our offspring who are equally committed to our instructions.

The story of Judah, one of the sons of Jacob (Israel) and his widowed daughter in law, forms an interesting reading. Judah had lost two sons, one of whom was the husband of Tamar. By Israeli tradition, Judah’s third son ought to take Tamar over that she may bear through him, a child(ren) unto her late husband. Although Judah promised to fulfill this when his third son grew, he failed to fulfil his promise. Whereby Tamar hashed a scheme that made him sleep with her, mistaking her for a harlot. Alas, the widow got pregnant and when the matter was brought to Judah, he wanted her burnt to death, even with the unborn child. Incidentally, Tamar produced evidence that Judah was the father of that which she carried which incidentally, happened to be twins, which was God’s way of giving back to Judah what he had lost. Interestingly, Judah was not too ashamed to own up to being the culprit. His righteousness stood him out and the scepter did not depart from Judah.

We all ought to be like God our father who does not forget our labor of love and recompenses us in all we do, particularly unto the children that he has given unto us. Many of us are too unrighteous to be just towards our children. Rather than minister justly to them, we tend to deny them of what is due to them. For instance, often times we ask the Lord for provision to meet the needs of the children, but end up diverting the provisions when made, to other uses. Most of these children have sown godly things in response to our leadings, but rather than be like God our righteous father, we do not recompense them as we ought. Judah could have been faithful to his dead son by giving him children by his brother but he denied him of this and his unrighteousness was exposed in that even he confessed that Thelma was more righteous than himself.

SOLUTION: As children of the Most-High God, we ought to show righteousness in all aspects of fathering our children. Fulfill our promises; recompense them for their good deeds; and ensure they have the best of us whilst they are still with us. Deceptive moves and maneuvers are inimical to righteous fatherhood. Abstain from it.

Please pray: Father, please keep me in righteousness like you in all I do in Jesus’ name. Let me not fail you by being unrighteous to any of your children whether biological to me or spiritual, in your body, in Jesus’ name. In the end, let me also be favorably rewarded for those I have ministered and still minister to, in Jesus’ name.
