The Upright’s Strength

Focus: Psalms 18:29 - KJV

29. For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

2 Samuel 23:8-12

The joy of the Lord is the strength of the upright. When the ways of a man be right in the sight of God, the Lord protects and strengthens him Himself. Indeed, a man that lives in righteousness is made strong such that he can overrun a whole troop. For him, there is no obstacle to high to scale and no fence too strong to overcome. The Lord is his strength and enabler. The difference between the upright and other people is that the Lord is the source of his strength and therefore, even though he appears an ordinary person, he does extraordinary things.

David was a man considered upright in his generation. When the king became jealous of him and was obsessed about killing him, he directed that he obtains two thousand foreskins of the philistines and David proceeded to obtain the same overrunning the philistine troops. That is a fete that is not ordinarily achievable. He also had lieutenants who ran through troops and did valiantly because the Lord was with them. Jonathan, a man with a clean heart even though he was the offspring of a wicked king, also ran through a troop because the Lord strengthened him.

The Lord is asking that we draw nigh unto Him so that He may also draw nigh unto us and give to us that which we lack but He has in abundance. It is indeed not by power nor might but by the Spirit of the Lord that we can excel in the things we do in this side of eternity. Unless we be on the side of the Lord, we are unable to run through troops. There is no way we can be on the side of the Lord unless we be righteous for it is impossible for two to walk together if they do not agree. Righteousness is key to achieving great exploits. Let us be righteous.

Thank you, father for showing me the path of righteousness in this life. Let your Spirit continue to guide me in the righteous paths in Jesus’ name. Make me an example of excellence in exploits by the reason of the righteousness of Christ, in Jesus’ name. From this day, let no troop of evildoers be able to withstand my onslaught in the name of Jesus.
