The Word Gives Insight To God

Focus: Proverbs 2:1-5 - KJV

1. My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2. So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4. If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5. Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

1 Kings 17:8-24

There is something interesting about the word of God: there is no knowing God without knowing His word. Elijah was a prophet who had an ear for the word of God and promptly did whatever he was told to do. It was the word that directed him to the home of the widow in Zarephath and by heeding thereto, he was sustained. The widow heard him, and because she had no option, as the meal she was asked to share was her last anyway. If she shared and nothing happened, she would die, and if she shared not, she was meant to die after. But if she shared and the word she heard sustained her, then she would not die, so soon. That was why she shared. Elijah on the other hand knew what he heard of God and how to believe Him. Then tragedy struck: the widow’s only son died. The widow forgot the fact that she was meant to have died with her son anyway, but pounced on Elijah as the one responsible. Elijah cried to God for the restoration of the child complaining bitterly as if it was God that killed the child. The child was restored and the widow affirmed the word from his mouth as God’s.

Many do not have the patience to incline their ears unto the wisdom that proceeds from the mouth of God, neither do they have understanding of it to apply their hearts thereto. Elijah almost freaked out but for the fact that he knew how to relate with God and His word. If on that day, the boy did not come back to life, like the people of this day, the widow might have assumed Elijah was a ritualist and had used her son for power ritual. At the critical time, Elijah sought the word of God as if for a hid treasure and the Lord came through for Him. Patience in seeking the word of God is key so that we do not go about misrepresenting God. There is misrepresentation in presenting God as a being outside what His word says He is. While Elijah was not with the word, he assumed God killed the child. But God is not wicked to give sorrow to someone who shows love, or at all. If only we will learn the word better and apply our hearts to understanding therein, then will we better understand who God is. Death bowed to Elijah by such understanding.

Beloved, there is no issue confronting us that our God cannot resolve. This God who can so resolve our issues can be found and understood through His word. The lack of immediate solution to most of the issues is borne out of the fact that we keep moving our hearts away from the word and keep seeking some Mr. fixit somewhere. It does not work like that. Even if Mr. fixit is able to give us some succor, it will only operate as a temporary reprieve. Victory is in our having the knowledge of our God through His word. That is when we can do exploits in the strength of the word.

SOLUTION: There is no by-passing the word to reach success. Good success and knowing God are combined in the knowledge of the word and acting on it. Take time to study the word of God deeply and soon you will be able to claim some knowledge of His being.

Please pray: Dear Lord, I want more of you. Help me to know you much more than I do through the exposition in your word that I may proclaim you successfully to the world, in Jesus’ name. Every time I study your word, please give me greater insight into your being by the help of your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
