True Freedom

Focus: John 8:36 - KJV

36. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John 8:31-36

There is a clearcut difference between a slave and a son in the affairs of the home. The slave operates in bondage even though he may not realize it because of the benevolence of the master. When the benevolence is withdrawn, the slave starts to experience and understand the truth about his status as a bondsman. However, the son is never in bondage and has access to all that the master has without let or hindrance. The beauty of the son’s status is that he also possesses capacity to set a slave free for what belongs to the father, belongs to him, including the slave. Every sinner is in bondage and therefore, a servant/slave of sin. But the one who has no sin, is a son of the father and can set free.

Joseph was a slave in Potiphar’s house. He had so much leverage because the master put all things in his care. But the day the master’s wife lied on him and his vague privileges were withdrawn, he was made to realize he was actually a slave without rights. Nonetheless, a time came when the one who had real authority being the king in the land had Joseph brought out of prison and bondage, and proclaimed his liberty whereupon he became truly free and was even set on a throne. Because he was free indeed, no one could query how he could be made a Prime Minister having been a slave. Alas, he was free indeed because he was set free by the one who had authority over all.

Jesus Christ is the one who has absolute authority over all things in heaven on earth and beneath the earth. He is saying to us all now that if only we can truly believe in Him, and just like Joseph did not rebuff Pharaoh, accept His invite, like Joseph was set free from bondage and he became free indeed, He is equally ready to set everyone in bondage free and they will be free indeed. With freedom comes the liberty to operate unhindered. But those who reject Christ’s offer would continue in bondage and stay imprisoned, living in chains and shackles of sort and not being able to live life to its full potentials. The Lord does not want this for us and therefore invite us to His freedom.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, at whose name all knees should bow, every power of sin holding you captive and keeping you bound shall bow now, in Jesus’ name. The same name sets you free now from every shackle of hell, in Jesus’ name. The Lord sets you free and enthrones you today to start putting things in order even for others, like Joseph, in Jesus’ name. Because you are free indeed, every sign of bondage upon your life is erased forever, in Jesus’ name.
