41. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42. But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Luke 10:38-42
It is the last day in the first half of the year already. How time flies. Assume for an instance, the Lord comes today asking that we give an account of our stewardship thus far: what shall we say we have done right with our lives for this half year? Many have been so distracted by things that do not glorify, leaving in abeyance those things that matter. Worse still, rather than limit their distractions to themselves, they drag others into it and make the whole situation messier. It is bad enough that they are distracted and not doing the things of God. It is worse that they drag others with themselves.
Martha was someone Jesus loved. He visited her house. Any good thinker will assume it is not out of place to make preparations to entertain your guest, just like Peter’s mother-in-law did when she was healed of a fever. But at the time Christ was revealing the mind of God and Mary, Martha’s sister was with rapt attention, Jesus prefers that she be not drawn away from that which she had chosen. Peter was Christ’s beloved; in despair, he decided to go a-fishing. It appeared laudable since his friend and Master had just been killed. But Christ would not ascend until redirecting Peter and those he was taking with him into his distraction, back in line. That is the essence of our being, doing the will of God by dwelling on His word.
Today, God is asking that we get focused on what is material and leave distractions aside so as not to be found wanting when it is most critical. He will also prefer that we do not draw others into our misdirected actions. It is disheartening that many are being taken away from the word and being led, at times by the nose into fables, jest-filled drama and philosophical misguidance which do not have approval in the word of God. Let the philosophers continue their philosophy like Martha and Peter’s mother-in-law were not dissuaded from their choices. But by all means, let us please not draw others into any such encumbrance, away from Christ.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for showing me that which is crucial to choose. Let me never be cumbered with vain thoughts or actions in my walk with you, in Jesus’ name. Please keep me at your feet, learning of you that I may always be pleasing to the father, in Jesus’ name. In whatever way I have misled anyone away from your feet, kindly help redirect the same today, by your mercy, in Jesus’ name. Let the new month and indeed the entire second half be a better experience for me and my family, in learning of you, and other aspects of life and living, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
