Workings Of The Spirit

Focus: Luke 4:18 - KJV

18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Luke 4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is the Spirit of liberty. The spirits of the world are the spirits of death, strife, vengeance wickedness and the like. However, when the Spirit of God comes on man, he becomes a new being and is not prone to wickedness any more. That Spirit makes him to operate in love such that firstly, he does not want to be the only bearer of the Spirit – he tells others about Him; he begins to operate in the power that emanates from the Spirit by healing the broken hearted, delivering the captives, helping the blind to recover sight, and setting those who are held bound free. When the Spirit comes upon a man, he is not moved to make others suffer but he becomes a life giver and makes life more worthwhile for others.

Christ is the original carrier of the Spirit for it was of Him that Isaiah prophesied when he wrote the scripture in focus. While He was on earth and was to be arrested by the High Priest, Peter drew his sword to cut off the ear of one of the servants of the High Priest, since at the time, Peter was yet to carry the Spirit in him. Rather than leave the man whose ear was cut off without succor, Christ mended his ear back for him. The difference at the time between Christ and Peter was the Spirit – Peter offered strife and violence, while Christ offered life. Later on, when Peter too had received the Spirit, even when he was arrested and kept in chains, like Christ, he offered nothing in defense of himself. That is the effect of the Spirit, and that is life.

The Lord is inviting us all to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. If we be willing, ready, and ask for the anointing, the Lord will release His Spirit upon those who desire Him. Once we be so anointed, we will begin to seek life not only for ourselves but also for everyone. In that, we will be like Christ even as we go about doing good. That is the way by which the Lord wants to light up the world.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for your Spirit that works in me. Please, let the Spirit manifest good works in me anywhere He leads me for the rest of my time on earth, in Jesus’ name. As Christ had said, please let greater works than Christ did be recorded for me among men, in Jesus’ name. Let great signs and wonders be found in my doings from now on, by the reason of the anointing, in Jesus’ name.
