Abounding In Love

Focus: Philippians 1:9-10 - KJV

9. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10. That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

Ephesians 5:1-5

Love is the totality of God’s expectation from every man. It is only through love that we can fulfil the purpose of God. The enemy does not want love to thrive amongst men so that they may not be pleasing to God. The love the Lord seeks from us is that we may be more knowledgeable about God and His judgment. It is only those who know God that will appreciate how to please Him in love. When we do know what pleases our God, then would we be able to pass right judgment when called upon to do so, regarding others. the person that passes perverse judgment that does not conform with love is deemed reckless and unrighteous and will answer to God himself. In any event, no whoremonger, no unclean person, nor covetous or idolater has any inheritance in the Lord for they are lacking in love.

Solomon was king over Israel. He was to be loving towards the people that God had placed him over, and he asked from God wisdom to do so. In one of the occasions, when he was called to pass judgment, two women fought over a living child the one claiming the dead child belonged to the other. One of them had obviously slept on her child and killed him but wanted to claim the living child. Through loving wisdom, Solomon was able to unravel the riddle and the living child was passed to the rightful mother. She was a recipient of love through the king’s judgment and went home pleased and thankful to God.

God wants us as believers to be pleasing more and more unto Him by making our love towards God and one another abound more and more. Love is never to be allowed to diminish but to abound. If sinners entice us to desist from loving, we ought not to consent but to heed the counsel of the Lord by abounding more and more in love, despite all odds.
