Be Diligent

Focus: 2 Peter 1:10 - KJV

10. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

2 Peter 1:1-11

There are certain virtues that sustain the believer in the walk with God to prevent him from falling. Invariably, if the believer is not attentive to maintaining those traits, the tendency is for him to fall. Hence, as good as faith is in drawing us by grace out of darkness into the light of God and the blessed glory therein, the sustenance of that glory is found in diligently pursuing the virtues in the fruit of the Spirit.

The very idea that the believer is susceptible to falling if not diligent in the pursuit of keeping the fruit, is enough to tell the purveyors of the theory that once we are born again, we are saved forever, that they are not correct. Unless we pay attention to maintaining the fruit, there can be a falling and the same is from grace by which salvation came through faith in the first place. As paramount as faith is, we are also expected to pay diligent attention to virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and love.

Let us therefore work out our salvation with fear and trembling so that we may remain standing in the Lord. As two cannot walk together save they be agreed, we cannot claim to walk with God unless we are knowledgeable about Him. That presupposes that the believer must constantly study the word of God. From the study, we will discover that God is Love and loving in all His ways. Hence, without love, it becomes impossible to be pleasing to God. Put in other words, those who fail to love are susceptible to falling from grace.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the grace you have given unto me to partake of your glory. Please help to sustain me in your glory through virtue, a growing knowledge of your person and the sustenance of love, in Jesus’ name. Please help me to obtain greater grace from you through the diligence I keep, by your Spirit, in knowing more of you, in Jesus’ name. Above all, let the glory that I have in you, manifest in all that I do from today, in Jesus’ name.
