Be Filled With The Fruits Of Righteousness

Focus: Philippians 1:11 - KJV

11. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Colossians 1:9-12

It is one thing to be washed in the blood of the Lamb and thereby become born again; it is another thing to retain salvation through good works. Salvation is attained by grace through faith, but it is sustained by the good works of the saved. We cannot continue in sin and ask grace to abound. When a person is born again, he is looked upon to bring forth fruits of righteousness which is the evidence of his belonging to God. For there is no unrighteousness in God’s DNA. Hence, when unrighteousness proceeds from a being that claims to be born of God, one wonders what root such fruit germinated from. There is obviously a disconnect. And since it is by their fruits that we know them, only the fruits of righteousness bear out the one born of God.

Paul was careful to make all his disciples know that unless they operate in good works like Christ, they will not make it to the end. He was particular about some that had no good works and spoke tersely against them, even while he commended others that bore fruits of righteousness. He even told them to commend to others the good works that they had seen and observed in him. If it be not necessary, he would not have been enjoining them to do so. All through the writings of the other Apostles, none said to abstain from good works because we have salvation from Christ. Rather, their admonition is that we be like Christ whom Peter said was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power and went about doing good. How then can we be Christ-like if we do not good works?

The Lord is telling us to come out of our deceitful state of believing we can do anything we like since we are already born again. It is the lie of the devil aimed at railroading many to perdition with himself. Seek good works and do them that we may bring forth fruits of righteousness and become identifiable as seeds of Christ. No more disorderly living for the believer. Live like Christ and be accepted of Him.
