1 Peter 1:13-16

Our God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. To be diligent is to refuse to be slack in any form or manner. The matter of God is so important that it is what He meets us doing that matters and not what we did in the past. He erases the sin of the sinner that turns to righteousness just as He forgets the good deeds of the righteous man who decides to resort to sin. Hence, for the believer to be saved fully, the same must not just be holy in some parts of his life but in totality, just as the Lord Himself is holy. If we refuse to imbibe holiness as a constant culture, we risk our salvation on the altar of frivolities.

Saul was taken from his position of “innocence” and was made king over Israel. Not so long thereafter, he forgot where he was taken from and began to misbehave and to discountenance “God’s instructions”. His initial position of innocence was no longer relevant but his latter disobedience became his undoing. Then came another Saul who for the better part of his known life persecuted Christians hauling them into prisons and in some cases, supervising their killing. All these got erased from his record after meeting Christ and taking on Christ’s righteousness. In the end, he finished well and strong with a new name and title: Apostle Paul. God is the Lord at all times, but for all intents and purposes, He is the God of our NOW! Who we are now is what counts the most, and not who we used to be, or who we intend to be in future.

The Lord is asking to know who we are now, and not who we used to be. It is a wrong testimony to say, “I cast out devils in your name,” when in the present day we allow devils to operate freely or even join their operations unwittily. Everyone who operates outside the defined parameters of Christ is anti-Christ and will be treated as such when Christ comes, and finds him that way. Hence, the Lord is saying to us that, today is the time to check ourselves in the mirror of the word of God, and deal with those spots and wrinkles showing on the garment. They have the capacity to cause virgins to be locked out of the bridegroom’s parlor.
