Focus: Romans 6:22 - KJV
22. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
1 Peter 2:13-17
Everyone that is born again is born of God and therefore ought to be free from sin. Being free from sin is not the same thing as being free from temptation. For as long as we remain in the body, temptation would come, no matter our state in life. Nevertheless, the factor that separates the son of God from the sinner is the fruit he bears. While we were in the world, we brought forth works that blended with the world as we were not different from the world. Being born again, we are transmuted from evil works into the ability to bear the fruit of holiness. But to bear the fruit of holiness, we must be intentional to walk in the Spirit so as not to fulfil the lusts of the flesh, which comes from temptation. Simon the sorcerer offered the apostles, including Peter, money in exchange for the gift of the Holy Spirit. That was temptation right there. But there was no sin in Peter to make him lust after the money offered. Not because the Church had no need for money, but because accepting it was to fall in temptation and fulfil the lust. Of course, there would have been nothing holy about it.
Today, our God is directing us to be clear about what we do. Whatever it is that ends up being the work of the flesh is never going to bear the fruit of holiness. It is good that we honor and obey those that are placed in authority by the State, the Church or even our work organization; but it is more important we fear God in whatever we do. Some things may be lawful to do, but inexpedient. It is lawful, for instance, to raise offerings for Church needs but it may not be expedient to do so when it glares us in the face that the people need first to be fed. It may be lawful to lay off staff for absenting themselves from work, but inexpedient to do so when it is clear that for economic hardship, the concerned worker could not afford the fare to attend. Let us be very considerate and God fearing, as His children, in all that we do, so as not to fall into sin and damnation.
SOLUTION: Weigh all your actions first on the scale of God before taking them. Those actions that God will never approve cannot be said to be done in holiness. Bear fruit therefore, that is holy always, and in all things.
