Focus: 2 Timothy 1:5 - KJV
5. When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
Genesis 18:17-19
The life of any man is too short timewise, to have a complete understanding of the person of the everlasting God. Hence, the Lord has invested in many adherents the knowledge of Himself for as much as the spate of time permits, and continues from there to the next generation until a time comes, when every man will be able to assert correctly the being of the living God. Indeed, from generation, to generation man gains fresh insight into the person of God and as he combines the same with that acquired by the forebears, greater insight is found. This is why God expects every purveyor of the faith to teach others in his or her genealogy, what they have heard or learnt of the person of God.
When Israel was in Egypt as slaves, as we know it, there was no written comprehensive scripture that introduced them to God. But when God sent Moses to them, He knew they knew Him as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, their father. Such knowledge was only possible for those children who were not born when any of the patriarchs mentioned lived, because of the culture of transmitting the knowledge about God to the latter generations. This is what helped Israel majorly as a nation. Every other nation has their concept of God, but much of it is diluted due to lack of transmission. God, who knows the ending from beginning, decided not to hide things from Abraham for this salient quality of his. Today, the whole world reads about God based on Abraham’s ingenuity in transmitting his knowledge. Paul found the same great trait in Timothy’s lineage.
The good Lord is saying to us today that we should not allow the cares of the world to prevent us from telling our children and household from time to time about our God and what we know of Him. It is only those who do know their God that are said to be strong and do exploits. If we refuse to be like Abraham or the maternal lineage of Timothy, a few generations down the line, our offspring may not have any knowledge about the person of God not to talk of the deep things of God. That in itself becomes a big loss of knowledge acquired from many generations that have gone before, and a colossal wastage of the investment of God for their lives. Start teaching them from today.
Please pray:
Father, I thank you for all your investment that has culminated into an in-depth knowledge of your person in me and many other believers. All I require is the courage, by the help of your Spirit, to impart the same knowledge into others so that they may grow in faith more than myself as you reveal yourself to them the more, in Jesus’ name. Please do not hide the things you will do from me as I will henceforth be committed to transmit whatever knowledge I acquire to others, by your grace, in Jesus’ name. Let your Kingdom come, O Lord, by reason of these things that we now know better than our forebears, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
