Bearing The Likeness Of God

Focus: Psalms 17:15 – KJV - 15. As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

The ultimate longing of a truly mature believer is a deep-seated desire for intimate fellowship with God and personal transformation that completely eclipses any temporary, earthly pleasure. His spiritual longing should be incompatible with that of the people of the world who find their satisfaction only in wealth, land, and full bellies. True, final contentment can only be achieved in beholding the face of God from a posture of absolute righteousness; and awakening to find oneself completely conformed to the very likeness and character of the Creator, through Christ.

Moses had achieved ultimate success by leading Israel out of Egypt, crossing the Red Sea, and speaking with God. Yet, his soul was still hungry for more intimacy. He stood on Mount Sinai and made the ultimate request asking to see the Lord’s glory. Moses wanted to behold the face of God. The Lord told him that no sinful human could look directly at His face and physically survive, but because He loved Moses, He hid him in the cleft of a rock and allowed His goodness and glory to pass by. Whenever Moses went into the Tabernacle to speak with God, he beheld the presence of the Lord. As a result, when he came down from the mountain, his face physically radiated with blinding, heavenly light because he had been in the presence of God's likeness. He was so completely satisfied by this divine fellowship that he willingly spent forty days fasting without even realizing his physical hunger.

The mind of God for the believer is that he would be like Him. Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the father. The essence of His coming to earth is to make more sons unto the father thereby making them joint heirs with Himself. This presupposes that everyone that believes through Him, should be like Him as sons, reflecting His own glory. Unless and until our minds begin to operate in this reality, we are yet to move in the direction of the fulfilment of the purpose of God for calling us out of darkness in the first place. Therefore, let us desist from doing things that Christ would not do or being where He would not be. In short, whatever will not reflect the image of Christ in you, please desist from.

Prayer:

Thank you, father for choosing me out of darkness and drawing me into your marvelous light. Help me to draw closer to you the more such that on a daily basis, my being will reflect your image the more to the glory of your name. Let my Christ-likeness begin to be more glaring to others that I may rule and reign with you in the end, being now your joint heir indeed, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
