Being God’s Children

Focus: 2 Corinthians 7:1 – KJV

1. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18

The promise of God is that those who turn away from sin and sinful life by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Savior shall be carved out of the stem of Adam and grafted in the root of Jesse to the effect that they become the children of God and God in turn receives them as their Father. What that simply means is that all those who have this promise are assured of the care and protection of a father to a child as against who do not so qualify. Incidentally, the requirements are set and cannot be varied. It is that we must be cleansed from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. Of spirit also? Yes. Our spirits must be devoid of filth to be able to relate with the Holy Spirit. God is holy and wants all that belong to Him to be holy also. Where we refuse to be holy, we cause a separation or detachment from Him. Israel was presumed clean when he entered Jericho. However, by disobedience and taking an accursed thing, filth entered into his camp and God got detached from him thereby. The result was calamity in the face of Ai. To belong to God’s family thereof, we are to emulate the first born thereof in holiness and stack righteousness.

Dear friend, God is willing to fulfil His promises in your life and nothing incapacitates Him from doing them but your filth. It may appear to you so minor a thing but with God, sin is sin and it draws repercussion. That promise that lingers may require your urgent check and corrective action for things to start to blossom again.

SOLUTION: Do check your ways from time to time and ensure you are not in error the kind that may force you out of the kingdom. Where there has been an error, quickly return to the Lord and restitute your ways also that the Lord may receive you again.

God of mercy will show you mercy today in Jesus’ name. Our father in heaven will meet all your righteous desires today and set your testimony in motion now in Jesus’ name. Victory without a fight you will enjoy going forward in Jesus’ name. And as a child of God, the glory, honor and splendor of the father will begin to show in your life in Jesus’ name.
