Focus: Luke 22:3-4 - KJV
3. Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. 4. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
Matthew 26:14-16
Betrayal is the violation of trust by a close associate. Everyone that professes Christ is an associate of His. By Him, denial is a betrayal. There was a time of ignorance when men did not know the true personality of God and therefore, served Him haphazardly according to their numerous thoughts and beliefs, most of which did not depict the truth of the person of God. Those days, scripture says, the Lord winked at. Meaning that those who lived in those days would be judged according to conscience and not in the strict sense of the knowledge of God. Now, there is a new Sheriff in town, the Lord Jesus Christ. He came to reveal to us the true person of God hence, He said “when you have seen me, you have seen the father”. He ensured that He introduced to us the truth of the person of the father as against the doctrines of the fathers who lived in the days of ignorance. And because a person cannot claim ignorance once he is exposed to the truth, many Christians are in the danger of denial because they are in constant betrayal by practicing the old ways in abeyance of the new. Most of them, because of filthy lucre, fail to stand with the truth.
Judas Iscariot was a very close associate of Christ. He was so close that he became the treasurer of the ministry. As treasurer, he was meant to be in charge of how the resources of the ministry are kept and utilized prudently. Unfortunately, he was fond of converting ministry funds to himself and therefore became lustful about money. Hence, it was not difficult to have him betray his master for money that is temporal. For every associate of Christ today, the money the Lord affords to come to you personally or, particularly, in ministry is meant to be used for effect on people or in ministry. When you start to acquire all manner of things by diverting the money, you are easily drawn by the devil to do no longer the will of the master but care for your stomach. You will then begin to defend ignominy as something God approves because He winked at the days of ignorance. No! Unless we stand for the truth, we stand the danger of being denied by Christ in the end. No wonder He said many would say on that day: Lord, Lord and He would say, I know you not. It is not everyone that calls Him Lord, Lord that will enter the Kingdom. If you must make it, stand on the truth of God and never depart from it. A departure is betrayal.
The Lord will create in each of us the right receptacle for the truth of the being of God to honor and stand with Him to the very end, in Jesus’ name. Every lie that has been sold to us as the word of God, may the Lord uproot it Himself as it is written, whatever tree that is not planted by my father shall be rooted up, in the name of Jesus. From this day, may we be true associates of Christ never yielding to filthy lucre or betrayal, in any way in Jesus’ name. May we never miss the reward of righteousness, in Jesus’ name.
SOLUTION: Please do only the things that Christ has prescribed for us. Anything outside it is a betrayal of His person, like Judas Iscariot did. The end of doing so is never palatable. Sticking with Him brings glory from now even unto the very end.
