The Message
Happy New Month and welcome to the beginning of the second quarter of the year. Ordinarily, by human convention, today is "April Fool’s Day." Yet, under the laws of God, the believer is a "fool for Christ’s sake." Today is a good time to consider the profound connection between God’s love and His chastening.
A true son does not reject the discipline of his father; he recognizes it as a vital expression of love. While others may wonder why a believer remains sober and steadfast during times of shaking and downturn, the believer understands that this process is for his own good. He is not moved by the opinions of the world but accepts God's correction humbly.
Lessons from the Word:
The Adamant: Esau was chastened for marrying against his parents' wishes but remained stubborn, leading to eventual regret. Samson similarly despised the loving rebuke of his parents regarding his desire for a Philistine woman, which led to his downfall.
The Humble: David was different. When Nathan the prophet confronted him about his sin with Bathsheba, David did not pull rank as king. He endured the Lord’s chastening and repented. Because of this humility, God acknowledged him as a man after His own heart.
Beloved, when God chastens us, it may feel grievous at the time, but His intent is never to destroy us. Rather, He seeks to break us away from sinful habits that cause separation between us and Him. If you are feeling the weight of His discipline today, know that it is because He loves you and desires for you to be His son. Endure it with a heart for Christ, and you will see a great result.
Prayer Points
Strength in Discipline: May the Lord relax the band of your chastening so that it may not be too grievous for you to bear, in Jesus’ name.
Drawing Nearer: May everything you have been chastened for serve to draw you continually nearer to God and His love.
Inheritance: Because you are a joint-heir with Christ, you will never miss your blessings, in Jesus’ name.
Amen
