Focus: 2 Timothy 4:10 - KJV
10. For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

In the believer’s walk, it is possible to desert a fold or some supposed leader(s) for their comingling with the world. On the other hand, it is possible for a perceived believer to forsake the fold and the leader because of the former’s love or attachment to this present world. The important thing is the hope of the believer in Jesus Christ and not necessarily the guile or otherwise of a leader whose loss of focus may derail the believer, if care is not taken.
Demas was a perceived believer who forsook Paul for what Paul called his love of this present world. That sort of desertion, if affirmed as true by God, is calamitous for Demas for he would have forsaken his hope in new life by Christ Jesus. Saul of Tarsus forsook the Sanhedrin because he found the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ as against what the High Priest represented at his time, a person he was later to call a white sepulcher.
It is not all desertion that is evil. As two cannot walk together except they be agreed, it will be suicidal to keep with a person whose doctrines do not promote Christ-likeness. It will be tantamount to the blind leading the blind. No wonder the word of God instructs to come out of their midst. It is however, suicidal for someone who has found hope in Christ to jettison the way for this present world. For such, there is no remedy. Please, never forsake Christ for this present world: whether because of your respect or regard for man or love of the world. Your hope should be hinged on Christ alone.
Please pray:
Father, I give you praise for showing me the way unto salvation, away from this present world. Thanks for first drawing me out of the darkness of this present world into your marvelous light with hope in Christ. Please, never allow the love of this present world to enter into me again, either by wrongly following man or for filthy lucre or any such thing. Please keep me present in you never to desert your way and doctrines, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name.
