Do Not Draw Back

ree

Focus: Hebrews 10:39 - KJV

39. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

John 17:12

The state of man before the coming of Christ was so bad in that he had no clear relationship with God other than servitude. With the advent of Christ, man is afforded the grace to become part of the family of the Most High. Hence, everyone who becomes adopted into the family occupies a privileged position. It is however damning to find some, after partaking of the grace that is in the light of God, drawing back into darkness and the old ways wherein there is rot and all manner of ills. When they so draw back, they are said to draw into perdition, which is a state of eternal damnation and punishment. It is so because they reject the King of Glory and all He has prepared for them.

The Lord Jesus Christ made it clear in His prayer for the believers that all that the Lord gave Him were intact except the son of perdition who was Judas Iscariot, to fulfil scriptures. Judas knew the Lord of glory; dined and walked with Him and yet drew back into doing the bidding of the devil in betraying his Lord. There was also a Demas that forsook ministry because he loved the world instead. Peter drew back and dragged many others with him when he witnessed the maltreatment and killing of his Lord. But the misbehavior of men is not sufficient reason to draw back from God. Hence, Christ, upon His resurrection returned to restore Peter and the others to the light. Christ specifically warned the healed not to draw back to forestall worse affliction.

Not everyone is as fortunate as Peter to have the Lord come for his restoration after having first been shown the way. Hence, the Lord is saying to us that we should be careful not to draw back at all. If any draws back, he beckons on great calamity from the coffers of the enemy. We are to ensure we endure and stay fixed on the path Christ has shown us to the very end. Perdition is not a cool way to end it all.

Let us pray:

The Lord will keep you under His watch and will not allow the enemy to deceive you into being drawn back into perdition in Jesus’ name. Every attempt at causing you to faint the Lord will scuttle for your sake in Jesus’ name. Wherever you have attempted like Peter to draw back, may the Lord Himself reach out to rescue you by His Spirit and power, in Jesus’ name. May you never miss the rewards of righteousness in the end, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
