Don’t Deviate From The Hope In Christ

Focus: Hebrews 6:11-12 - KJV

11. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12. That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Hebrews 6:9-12

The hope that we have in Christ is so precious that we need to continue working to retain it so as not to forfeit it. The beauty of being in Christ is that, even though He expects us to stick with holiness always, if we however momentarily misstep into iniquity and realize our mistake and return to Him in repentance asking for His mercy, He is quick to restore us and renew our hope of eternity. To keep up the hope, we are expected to continue in good works and holiness. Those who abstain from these resign from the hope that is in Christ Jesus for them and are minded to dine with the devil.

Ananias and Sapphira received the hope in Christ but were not contented therewith. Hence, they decided to turn their backs on that hope to seek cover under the devil who is the father of lies. Unfortunately, they had no opportunity of repentance as death caught up with them instantaneously. Demas had the hope when he received Christ and became Apostle Paul’s disciple. But then, he could not continue in the line of hope as he preferred that which the devil offered in the world, to the hope bestowed on him at no price or payment from him. Many, in the days of scripture did similar things and many are doing it even now – preferring the world to Christ or godliness.

The Lord is asking that we continue in good works which will sustain us in the hope we received of Christ by grace through faith. Unless we do the will of Christ through good works, and continue therein, there is no guarantee of the promise of eternity for the wicked. A person is wicked who treats Christ shabbily by refusing to obey His commands despite all that He did to guarantee us the promised eternal life. It is therefore, the Lord’s position to us today that we hold on to that which we have in Christ by continuing in good works and holiness, so that we may not forfeit the hope we have.
