Don’t Get Bewitched

Focus: Galatians 3:1 KJV: O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

There is a rebuke for believers who allow themselves to be bewitched, that is, spiritually tricked, mesmerized, or misled by false teachers. It is the tragedy of people who once clearly understood the pure gospel of grace through Jesus Christ, but were later manipulated into abandoning that truth for legalism and human effort.

The true prophet of God, Micaiah, explicitly warned Ahab that a lying spirit had filled the mouths of his court prophets and that going to war would result in his death. The truth was evidently set forth right in front of him. Ahab chose to listen to the flattering, deceptive performance of 400 false prophets who used dramatic signs to promise him victory. He was completely blinded and mesmerized by their lie, ignoring God's word to obey a lethal deception. It led straight to his demise on the battlefield.

Being popular or loud does not make a message true. The enemy loves to send sophisticated or appealing distractions to bewitch us away from the simple truth of God's Word. We must keep our eyes locked exclusively on the cross of Christ and refuse to let any sweet-sounding deception manipulate our obedience.

Prayer:

Thank you, father for your truth that is not hidden from me. Please keep me operating therein forever. Let not deceivers entice me away from your truth in this life. Let the light of your truth always be my guide so that I may never miss my way. Let every attempt at bewitching me with enticing falsehood fail, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
