Faithful Stewards

Focus: 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 - KJV

1. Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

John 12:1-6

Everything we do while operating as children of God in the body of Christ is seen and observed by many. Even though, many times the observation is not verbalized, they do not go unnoticed. But the ministry which the Lord has saddled us with is that of purity and not filth. Operating in filth and condemning the same or pretending to approve purity is highly condemnable and not something that should be found with a minister of Christ. While Christ was on earth physically, He had as the treasurer for His ministry one called Judas Iscariot. He presented a front of someone who hated waste and having interest in philanthropy whereas, his secret sins were known to the others and took his admonition with a pinch of salt. So, when Mary anointed the feet of Christ with the expensive oil and he expressed disapproval, one can imagine the reaction of others who knew he was dipping his hand unlawfully into the ministry’s purse. He was not found faithful. The same unfaithfulness led him to trading the person of his leader for pecuniary means. When the sons of Eli were being unfaithful with the sacrifices of the Israelites, they would have assumed since they were in charge, nothing would happen to them. But when the Lord moved, they both died on the same day including their father who failed to curb them, and the wife of one of them. It is therefore a misrepresentation of Christ and His ministry for a minister thereof to be unfaithful or unjust in the sight of others.

When the Lord saddles you with a responsibility in ministry, it behoves you to be a good ambassador of the ministry and not cause outsiders to mock the ministry. Converting part of the things meant for the ministry to yourself is unfortunate and is observed by all. Israel knew the children of Samuel were unfaithful and rather than fight them they rejected them from being judges and asked for a king instead. The judgement of God over the unfaithful steward may be daunting in the end. You don’t want that to come your way. Why not be faithful and let people account of you as being so.

SOLUTION: Be true to your calling. What you will do in the secret be sure you can do it in the open. Never do a thing Christ will not approve for you as His minister and prayerfully live life following and looking up to Jesus.

Father, please forgive our hypocrisies of the time past as it was due to our ignorance at the time. Kindly help us from now by your Spirit to live our lives as your faithful ministers in the name of Jesus Christ.
