Feed God’s Church

Focus: John 21:15 KJV - So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

True love for God is measured by our willingness to selflessly care for, protect, and spiritually nourish His people (the church). It is not so much about our selfish acquisitions and worldly pursuits to show how so much “God has blessed us” with affluence and all manner of luxury the cause of which we lack the time to cater for, protect and spiritually nourish the Church of God. The reason the Church is lax today is the selfish pursuit of wealth which forestalls the deep understanding of the Bread of Life which is necessary for the feeding and development of the Church.

Just days prior, on the night of Jesus's arrest, Peter had caved under pressure, denying even knowing Jesus. Peter had denied Christ thrice by the charcoal fire, so Jesus, to restore him, had created a similar setting by the charcoal fire, matching the exact number of Peter's denials. Jesus was methodically untying the knots of Peter’s guilt. By telling Peter to "Feed my lambs," Jesus was publicly reinstating him. He was telling Peter that his past failure did not disqualify him from his future calling. Peter’s purpose was no longer catching fish; it was shepherding souls. Peter took this command to heart. Later, we see a completely transformed Peter. He boldly preached on the Day of Pentecost, leading thousands to Christ, and eventually wrote his own epistles, echoing this exact command to other church leaders: "Feed the flock of God which is among you....”

Peter’s restoration shows us that Jesus specializes in redeeming our worst failures. He does not base our future on our past mistakes, but on our current love for Him. If you love Christ, the best way to prove it is not through loud boasts, but by actively serving, loving, and feeding the people He cares about. Today, please forgo your past and focus on God’s assignment which is feeding His Church.

Prayer

Thank you, father for the grace to be your vessel unto many. Please give me the grace to do your will in this life such that I will no longer seek my selfish ambition but pursue the Kingdom of God and His righteousness first, in all things. Let me never fail you in my pursuit, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
