Focus: Galatians 6:14 - KJV
14. But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Romans 6:2-6
There is a tendency for believers to look down on those outside the fold and treat them with disdain. Some may even despise others within the same fold having the mind that they are filthy, as against themselves. They claim to themselves all righteousness and thereby glorify themselves alone. The salvation we have is by grace through faith, otherwise, every of our righteousness is like filthy rags before the pure God. Since we did nothing of ourselves to make us attain whatever we think we have attained in Christ, then we should rather glory in the cross by which we have so attained rather than in ourselves. Hence, the reason that filth is now something we abhor, is because of the cross that Jesus Christ volunteered to die on, we should therefore glorify Christ and the cross by which we are also crucified unto the world and the filth in it. Looking down on others and treating them like filthy vessels is a sign of not having been fully crucified unto the world.
Peter had taken time to dine with gentile Christians while the Jewish ones were not around. But as soon as the Jewish ones came, not to be viewed as breaking the traditions of the fathers, he quickly adjusted his position abstaining from dining further with them under the pretext that they were uncircumcised and therefore, unholy before God. This posture was challenged by Paul to set the records straight. The gospel is for mankind whether you are Jew or otherwise. All souls belong to God and it is in God’s pleasure that none should perish. Segregating and treating people like outcasts therefore, is against God’s pleasure.
Today, the Lord is saying to us that none of us should ascribe glory unto himself over others on being born again. Rather, we should keep agonizing in searching for ways to bring others to the cross where we were saved. Let us therefore, consciously humble ourselves to the realization of the fact that we did not rescue ourselves, Christ did, and we could have been worse than those we condemn, if we were not led to the cross ourselves to be crucified with Him. Insisting on glorifying ourselves over others in the matter of sanctity or sanctification, is clearly evidence of not being crucified and dead to the world.
SOLUTION: Never forget where you hailed from; no one excels through self-righteousness but in the righteousness of Christ. Hence, let us stop looking down on others as if we are more entitled than they are. Rather, let us with humility, like Christ, lead them to the cross where we were saved.
Please pray: Our father in heaven, thank you for the cross of Jesus Christ. The grace to glory in it alone, please release upon each of us in Jesus’ name. Let pride never be found in us that will make us to condemn anyone because of your grace operating in our lives, in Jesus’ name. Help us to finish strong and well in Jesus’ name.
