God delivers the Just

Key verse: 2 Peter 2:9

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

2 Kings 19:6-7

Of the kings that reigned in Judah in the days of the divided kingdom, Hezekiah was reckoned to have done right in the sight of the Lord. In other words, he was just. To be acclaimed just, one must be seen to follow the tenets of the Lord laid down for the Jews. This just king was however attacked by a “more powerful” one, in the king of Assyria, Sennacherib. The King of Assyria had terrorized neighboring kingdoms including Judah to submission. For his kingdom not to be extinguished, Hezekiah had pleaded with the king of Assyria to pay ransom to him. A price was named and Hezekiah paid even from the treasures in the House of his God. Yet, the Assyrian king pressed for total submission of Judah in tributary to Assyria. He became a terror to Hezekiah, demeaned him and spoke ill of the living God, before Hezekiah’s subjects. Rather than be quiet, Hezekiah ran to God for help and solicited the support of His prophet. Because the Lord will normally deliver the just, He promised Hezekiah that he would be rescued from the assailing king of Assyria as the said king would be made to hear a rumor and depart. This happened as the Lord had said and Hezekiah was rescued from the evil king. Not only that, the king never returned to terrorize him again as he was made to meet his waterloo: he was killed by his sons after the Lord had slain his soldiers by an angel.

Beloved, whatever we do in life, we must be careful to be on the side of the Lord by living our lives to please Him. If we can get that right, He is available to deliver us from the wicked one anytime we are under attack. And the beauty of being on His side is that even the evil one will not go unpunished as the Lord only reserves him for the day of judgment like He did for Sennacherib.

Choose the Lord today. The benefits of doing so are so great and relaxing. Don’t allow yourself to be oppressed by the enemy or his agents for long before you come under the cover of the Almighty. Why not act today?

Pray: O Lord, I hide myself under your shadow from today: let not the hands of the enemy reach me and please help me to overcome every temptation brought my way in Jesus name.
