Focus: Acts 27:23-24 KJV - Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Perfect peace, being a supernatural tranquility is not the result of a problem-free life, but a focused mind. To have a mind stayed on God is to anchor our thoughts, imagination, and attention firmly onto His character, power, and promises, rather than letting them drift into anxiety. The foundation of this focus is absolute trust; when we truly believe God is in control, our mind stops racing, and His peace guards our heart.
A massive, multi-nation coalition of armies came out to launch a surprise invasion against Judah. Humanly speaking, Jehoshaphat was completely outnumbered and outmatched. The Bible notes that he initially feared, which is a normal human reaction. Instead of panicking, calling a military retreat, or focusing on the terrifying size of the enemy, Jehoshaphat gathered the entire nation to fast and pray. He stood before the crowd and intentionally fixed his mind on God's track record, praying. He concluded his prayer with a line that perfectly defines a "stayed mind" by completely transferring his gaze from the problem to the Provider. The moment they placed their trust in God, the Holy Spirit sent a message telling them they wouldn't even need to fight the battle. Jehoshaphat was so filled with perfect peace that the very next morning, instead of putting his fiercest soldiers at the front of the army, he put the choir at the front to sing praises to God. God completely destroyed the enemy armies for them while Judah simply watched and worshiped.
Jehoshaphat shows us that peace is a matter of focus. If we keep our eyes locked on the giants and armies of life, we will live in constant anxiety. But when we admit our own limitations and firmly stay our mind on God's sovereign power, He introduces a perfect peace into our situation that defies all human logic. So, keep your mind stayed on God the one who takes control and brings perfect peace. If you don’t, what can you do about the situation anyway? Leave it all in the hands of God.
Prayer:
Father, I thank you for your peace that passes all understanding that saturates my life. I commit everything that pertains to my life: all my worries and cause of anxiety, into your hands; please take full control thereof. Give me the grace to keep my focus on you, no matter the situation, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Please share. God bless you.
