Let Christ Have The Preeminence

Focus: Colossians 1:18 KJV - And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Happy New month, beloved. May this ember month bring to us beautiful things to remember for long, in Jesus’ name. As a physical head controls and guides every movement of a human body, Jesus is the ultimate authority, source of life, and leader of His church. Although He was not the first person ever resurrected, but He holds the highest rank, title, and sovereignty over death, guaranteeing the future resurrection of all believers. He holds the absolute first place, having supreme peak authority and unmatched priority in every single area of life.

Before Jesus began His public ministry, John the Baptist was the most famous and influential spiritual figure in Israel. Thousands of people flocked to the wilderness to hear him preach, and he possessed a massive, loyal following. He could have easily claimed supreme authority or let the crowd make him the ultimate leader. Instead, he constantly reminded people that he was not the main event. He rather pointed to Jesus. When Jesus started ministry and John's own crowds started shrinking, John's disciples became jealous. John immediately corrected them saying Jesus must increase, but he (John) must decrease. John described himself merely as the friend of the bridegroom. He knew the church belonged to Jesus, the true Head. John found his ultimate joy not in his own fame, but in hearing the voice of Jesus take center stage.

This shows us what it looks like to live a life where Christ has the preeminence. It requires a willingness to step out of the spotlight, swallow our own pride, and intentionally decrease our own personal ambitions so that Jesus Christ can be seen as the ultimate Head and leader of everything we do. This month and beyond, let us please allow Christ to take the preeminence in all things and direct our affairs, He being the Head of His Church, part of which we are, for the best of results.

Prayer:

Thank you, Lord for all that you do in my life. I commit everything about my life and ways unto you that is the Head of the Church: please take preeminence in all things. Scare away every issue of darkness from my life and living so that I may live my life in peace all around and put the enemy to shame, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
