8. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
Matthew 8:5-13
Humility as men think is not the same as what God desires. Pride is as unto God and not necessarily man. It is the haughtiness in the hearts of men that make them look down on God. Those that do deny the Almightiness of God, are never pleasing to God. For without faith, it is impossible to please the Lord. He that must please Him must believe that He is. The moment we humble ourselves before God by coming down from our high horses to pay obeisance unto God, He in turn picks us up and take our humble disposition for great faith. If we refuse to humble ourselves before Him, He respects Himself so well, not to meddle in our affairs.
The centurion in our reading was a man of authority. It simply means he was by himself a commander of men, and he understood vividly hierarchical commands. He however, stooped low for Christ and gave Him the preeminence over himself, believing that Christ is the Lord and a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Rather than have Him journey to his house to heal his servant, he would rather that Christ issued the command and all the elements will be at attention to ensure performance. Of course, he knew that with all his own authority, he could not achieve the same fete by his commands. He gave honor to Christ believing He was able to do what himself could not do.
The Lord is saying today that there is one that is higher than the highest, at whose name all knees in all the realms bow. If only we can give honor to the same and humble ourselves before Him, at His name, all our challenges would bow. We however, must first ascribe to Him the Lordship due to Him. It is not about the gymnastics we perform in sanctuaries in the form of showmanship trying to command the Lord around, no! It is about submitting to Him and allowing Him to take the situation over without us wanting to show we have a part in the act. Bottomline: God does not share His glory with anyone. Let us with humility allow Him to be God and it will be counted as faith for us.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for being you and allowing me to be part of your family. I confess that I have not been humble enough towards you and that is why I have not been doing much exploits. Dear Lord, from this day, I submit absolutely to Your Excellency and Lordship over my life, and declare that you are my all in all. Please just speak the word and let all the issues confronting me fade away today, in the name of Jesus. I am not capable of ordering you around or pretending to be able to do anything by myself. All I have and all I am is by your grace. Therefore, please take preeminence over my life, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
