Lay Aside Superfluity Of Naughtiness

Focus: James 1:21 - KJV

21. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

1 Peter 1:22-25

The choice of words of the author of the book of James is quite interesting. When something is superfluous, it is said to be more than enough, redundant, surplus. Whose words then do the apostles consider superfluous and naughty? They made reference to such words in comparison with the truth, which is in the Gospel, which of course are based on the words and teaching of Christ. They even say to shed the old man which is found in this superfluity of naughtiness and embrace the new which is the truth. Point is, no one can please the father except by the Gospel which is the truth. Reliance on old teachings and words which have added more to what the Lord Himself commands is superfluous and therefore engender naughtiness.

The Lord gave the law in the form of ten commandments on a tablet. Complete as it were, it was not satisfactory to the one who had been schooled in the laws and tenets of Egypt. Hence, he expanded them superfluously and brought about naughtiness in that it introduced things which the Lord never intended. Rather than have the people do the will of God, it drove them further from Him. Take for an instance: the Lord had said “thou shall not kill.” Simple short and instructive. He gave no exceptional circumstances through which anyone, and that is, anyone at all, can kill. When superfluity was to be introduced, it was said that people could be stoned to death for doing any out of many things. Yet the same was ascribed to God, thereby bringing out the naughtiness.

Hear now the word of the Lord! Renew your minds. God is never an author of confusion to say thou shall not commit adultery and limit it later to only the woman, to the extent that the man is only complicit if caught in the act with the wife of another. No! His injunction is clear: even if you marry one who has been divorced as a man, or woman, you are in adultery. That is the truth. Let us therefore cling unto the truth as expounded by Christ and stop leaning on the superfluous words that make us naughty and separate between us and the only true God.

Please pray:

Father, I thank you for the grace to be born again. All that the enemy is doing to keep me in his lies of old please nullify and disallow for my sake, in Jesus’ name. I know you do love me and you will do anything to keep me in you. Therefore, Lord, take away from my sight and psyche everything that will draw me into naughtiness, in Jesus’ name. Let every purveyor of lies be far from me, in Jesus’ name. And from today, the truth that I know, please let it propel me and many others the more to your light, in Jesus’ name.

Please share with others. God bless you.
