Learn From Bible Characters

Focus: Romans 15:4 – KJV - 4. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Happy New Month Beloved. May the month of August bring to you a new beginning of glory in Jesus’ name. A wise one once said that a fool learns from his own mistake while the wise man learns from the mistake of others. The Lord has invented for us the scriptures that we may learn from the mistakes of those who had gone before us in the journey of life. Those who take time to study the written word of God and operate in it, find the booby traps of the enemy and garners thoughts from the experience of others to navigate their ways away from the enemy’s snare.

A massive coalition army of Moabites, Ammonites, and Edomites marched against Jerusalem. Jehoshaphat was completely outnumbered and confessed, "neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee." Instead of panicking, Jehoshaphat stood before the congregation and began to read back God’s own history book. He prayed aloud, reciting "the things written aforetime." He reminded God, and the people, of how God drove out the inhabitants of the land, how He made a covenant with Abraham, and how He protected them in the wilderness. By anchoring his heart in what God had done aforetime, Jehoshaphat found instant "patience and comfort." The nation shifted from terror to radical praise, marching into battle singing thanksgiving before the fight even started. God responded by causing the enemy armies to turn on each other, delivering a total victory without Judah having to strike a single blow. Jehoshaphat proved that reciting God's track record breaks current anxiety.

What is it that is causing you anxious moments in life? The antidote is in the written word of God. One character or the other was in that situation aforetime from whose experience you can relate to gain your victory. In this new month therefore, ensure you rely more on God’s word for pointers to your escape from the snares of the devil. Don’t allow the enemy to mess you up by you waiting to suffer a fall to learn the curves. Tap into wisdom by learning from those who had gone before. Why not start thanking God in advance for the glory He will cloak you with this month. Happy New Month!

Father, I thank you for the load of experience you have put together in your Word to be a guide unto those of us who live in this age. From today, let the entrance of your word shed light always into my situation and understanding that aids my navigating my way out of bottlenecks. Let me never be the fool who will wait to learn from his personal experience. Please bear me always in your palm by the reason of your word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
