Looking Forward To God’s Promise

Focus: 2 Peter 3:13 – KJV - Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

The current physical world is temporary and will eventually be no more due to the corruption of sin. However, rather than living in fear or despair, believers are told to look for (anticipate with hope) God's ultimate promise: a completely renewed creation. The defining feature of this new home is that righteousness dwells there permanently. There will be no more sin, injustice, pain, or rebellion—only perfect alignment with God's holy standard. The problem, however is, God has purposed man to attain this standard that will translate the current earth into the new one so expressed, through believers manifesting as His sons, clearing darkness from the face of the present earth. But it seems believers are not so believing or rather weak against the power of darkness. Yet, His promise He would fulfill, and soon, faithful believers will enter into that rest.

Abraham, by faith, sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles, for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God, says Hebrews 11:9-10. God promised Abraham a physical land (Canaan) and an inheritance. But Abraham understood that the earthly land was just a shadow of a greater, eternal, divine inheritance. He trusted God’s promise over what his physical eyes could see. And because he was "looking forward" to the heavenly, righteous city, Abraham never built a permanent, grand palace on Earth. He lived in temporary tents ("tabernacles"), treating the current world as a passing marketplace rather than his permanent home. Living with eternity in mind changed how Abraham conducted his daily life. He walked by faith, resisted the wicked culture of the surrounding nations (like Sodom), and remained focused on the ultimate builder and maker, which is God.

Just like Abraham, believers today are called to look past the chaos, injustice, and temporary nature of our current world. By anchoring our hope in the promised new heavens and a new earth, we find the strength to live holy, faithful lives today, knowing our true home is yet to come. A life of holiness and complete obedience to God builds up the believer to the stature of the fullness of Christ which is sonship; and by it a collection of sons is able to take dominion over the current earth. God is looking for the manifestation of the sons of God, just like the earnest expectation of the creature is also awaiting the same manifestation. Will you be counted among? Time is running out.

Prayer:

Father, thank you for bringing me to live at this time so that I may realise the essence of my being and grow up to being your son indeed. Let me together with many others manifest as your true sons that we may take over the reins of the earth from the enemy, and that you may release to us a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness will reign forever and death will no longer be. Make me a partaker of this grace and eternal bliss, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please share. God bless you.
