Loving God

Focus: Matthew 10:37 - KJV

37. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Genesis 22:1-12

Our God is Love and He expects that we love Him just like He loves us. He made it clear that the law is about love and the first is to love God. The love of the neighbor is secondary to that. Meaning that, our love for the neighbor should be premised on the love we have for God. We cannot therefore, love anyone more than we love God.

This is better portrayed in the story of Abraham. He left his kindred not because he did not love them but because God said so. We know he loved them because he was not able to leave the orphaned nephew, Lot, when he obeyed God. He was so aged when God gave him Isaac, his prided heir. Despite his love for Isaac, which even the Lord acknowledged, he did not withhold Isaac from God in sacrifice, showing he loved God more than Isaac. No wonder God conferred righteousness on him who was not ordinarily righteous.

On this fateful day, God is letting us into the secret of being His true followers. Those who love anyone or thing more than they do God, are not worthy of Him. So many will because of their offspring, spouse, kinsmen, neighbors or even money, ignore God. When God says for instance, bring your tithe into the storehouse, they are quick to remember rent, school fees and upkeep as basis for refusing the injunction. That is them preferring those who they succor thereby to the Lord. So many pastors have abused tithing; that may be true. The children of Eli and those of Samuel did the same but God never because of it cancel the injunction: he rebuked the erroneous priests instead. Let us be careful to love God first and put Him first in all things like Abraham, so that we may equally enjoy God’s being.

SOLUTION: Put God beyond all others in your life and being. There is no one who can care for you like Him. Though it is possible for a mother to forsake her suckling child, God will never forsake you. Isaac eventually forsook Abraham for wanting to sacrifice him, but God stood with Abraham to the end. Be for God first, and you will be worthy of Him also.

Please pray:

·      Father, thank you for loving me beyond my ordinary apprehension

·      Father, please by your Spirit, help me to keep my focus on you above every other being and consideration in Jesus’ name

·      Father, please grant me the courage to stand for you in all situations, no matter what, in Jesus’ name

·      Lord, help me to overcome every luring towards giving priority to any other over you, in Jesus’ name

·      Daddy, like you blessed Abraham and called him righteous, bless me also even beyond and let your righteousness never depart from me in Jesus’ name.

If you are blessed by this post, kindly share with your contacts, as well as others, that they may be blessed also. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly as you do so, in Jesus’ name.
