Focus: Luke 10:38-40 - KJV
38. Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Luke 10:38-41
Ministry is by calling and conviction. It is always the best to enter into the ministry that one is called to and whatsoever the hands find to do thereat, to do with all of one’s might. There are those who are called to be pastors while others are called to be prophets, teachers, evangelists and on and on. At a time, some were appointed just to serve the table. Wherever the calling is, with clear conviction, let everyone thrive to fulfill that calling. Each calling exists to compliment the other and that is how the body can effectively function.
Martha was overwhelmed in her ministry, not because she could not handle the task involved, but because she would rather draw another out of her calling to mingle in a ministry to which she is not convinced to operate. In the first showing, Mary was learning and imbibing the word from the mouth of Christ as something that would make her thrive in her calling. At the later showing, while Martha was back in her cooking (hospitality) ministry, Mary was breaking a pound of ointment of spikenard to anoint the Lord towards His funeral. That role would most likely, have been left undone if she was not there to think about it and fill in.
The Lord is asking us to keep our eyes single by focusing on that which pertains to our calling and leave others to fit properly into theirs. It is worse to want to leave our calling to operate in that of another because it appears that other is successful in it. Christ approved Mary’s ministry for what it was and would not have approved her being in hospitality. Whatever the Lord has called us to do is what we should place our focuses on and not be envious of others operating in theirs. Some gatekeepers will receive greater rewards than other pastors if they be more diligent in the calling than the pastors.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for the grace to know your calling for my life. Please from now on, help me never to be envious of anyone else’s deeds in ministry; let me never have the reason to compare myself with any other, in Jesus’ name. Kindly give your own approval to that which you have called me and let me excel tremendously in it, in Jesus’ name. Grant me the fortitude to do only what is right per time in the ministry you called me to, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
