13. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
Matthew 5:7
Life is about sowing and reaping. Anything a man does is a seed sown and will bring forth harvest eventually. Our God is a merciful God. However, He is constrained from showing mercy to those who fail to sow mercy. Where He finds mercy, He is often compelled to show mercy. Many people expect the mercy of God to operate in their situation, yet they are not merciful towards others. God looks to the heart before He decides whom to show mercy on. When the heart is merciful, then mercy is bestowed. Where it does not, His mercy also is denied the person.
Christ spoke about a worker who was forgiven so much debt but refused to forgive another that owed him so little. Their master was unhappy with him for being so merciless and requested that he too pay up in full what he owed. A man of God once shared his experience: he had need of 17,000quids for the roofing of a housing project. His subordinate in the same organization had need of only 1000quids for his own assignment. At first the man of God dismissed the subordinate but eventually handed to him the 1000quids which was all he had. Once he showed mercy to his subordinate, God showed him mercy by supplying his own needed 17,000quids. Mercy begets mercy.
If God marks iniquity there is none that can stand. The Lord is asking us to show mercy to others so that He will not require from us repayment of that He has forgiven us of. There is none that can fully pay the Lord all that we do owe Him. If that then be the case, we ought always to remember and show mercy to others. At any rate, when we show mercy, we are sure to obtain mercy from the Most High. His mercies are sufficient to give us life.
Please pray:
Thank you, father for your mercies that endure forever over my life and that of every believer. Help us to be merciful even as you are merciful so that we may continue to enjoy your blessing in mercy, in Jesus’ name. Let your personality in mercy show in our lives being your likeness, dear Lord, in Jesus’ name. By your mercy, grant us life and life more abundantly, in Jesus’ name.
Please share with others. God bless you.
