Focus: Joshua 8:26 - KJV
26. For Joshua drew not his hand back, wherewith he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
Exodus 17:11-12
The work of the enemy is to steal to kill and to destroy, and he achieves much while men sleep or are drawn back. But the hands of the diligent bear rule. Hence, whenever we draw back our hands from being diligent and being on the prowl, the enemy crawls in to fulfil his enterprise. Little did David know that the enemy was skillfully watching to cause a division between him and his God. When it was the time that kings went to battle, David stayed back at home and left the battle for the boys. He did not know that there was a greater battle for his soul lurking in his bedroom for him. He ended up entangling himself with another man’s wife and was defeated thereby because he was suddenly thrown under tribute seeking how to obliviate the ill he had thrown his soul into.
Moses was a great leader in Israel whose hands did valiantly for the nation whenever he used it to put the rod of God to action. He did not slacken his hands at the brink of the Red Sea but used them to lift the rod for the Sea to part. When they became thirsty and appeared to be at the brink of extinction from thirst, he used his hands to lift the rod and strike the rock for water to gush out for them to quench their thirsts. When the battle with the Amalekites was so rife, for Joshua to be able to excel in battle, he needed to lift up his hands carrying the rod of God and when his strength was failing, Aaron and Hur needed to support those hands so that the enemy may not prevail.
Today is the very last day in the first half of the year. The Lord be praised for all that we have gone through so far in the year. But then, it is not yet time to go to sleep or bring down our hands, assuming there is nothing more to strive for. The enemy is never relenting as we discover in the story of David. For us to be valiant in all we do, like Joshua and Moses, we are to employ our hands and never give in to the enemy. Where it appears those hands are getting weak, please yell for help from those around you who are chosen for you by God. Not everyone around Moses was available to help sustain his hands in lifting the rod of God. As you receive help for the support of your hands, be careful for whom you recruit to do so, lest you engage those who are out to pull the hands down.
SOLUTION: Be diligent in labor particularly as it pertains to the things of God. Please do not draw back or slacken your hands. Grip the rod of God tight and put it to use for your victory against the devil. The second half shall be better by far than the first.
Please pray:
· Give thanks to God for giving you victory over the first half of the year
· Ask God to please restore to you all that you may have lost by slackening your hands in the course of the first half
· Pray God to strengthen you for the race ahead and send to you divine helpers to help hold up your hands for the rest of the year and even beyond
· Ask God to give you victory over the enemy that he may not overcome you like he did David
· Ask for your daily bread today thanking God for the unfailing bread you received daily from Him in the last six months.
