Obey God, Not Men

Focus: Acts 5:29 - KJV

29. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Acts 5:17-29

There are situations in life when there is a need to choose between what God has commanded and that which men desire. In the days of the Apostles, there was an arrest made by the rulers of the Jews for preaching the Gospel. These rulers committed them into the common prison with a view to making them suffer. But God sent His angel to deliver them and instructed them to go stand in the Temple and preach. When the wicked heard and saw that they had left the prison and were out preaching, they came again to harass them and insisted they stopped preaching in the name of the Lord. But, judging that their worst was nothing against the disciples since they had the Lord of Hosts behind them, the disciples rightfully decided to stick with the Lord’s instruction rather than that of the evil men. Truth is, when men instruct you contrary to the will of God, apart from fulfilling the purpose of their father the devil, they do so for their own popularity and selfish ends. Such ends will only profit them and not the entire people.

Beloved, never turn your heart away from the instruction of God for any reason. It is never that the men contrary to such instruction love you. It is that they want to serve their own purpose. Remember the young prophet who heard a clear instruction from the Lord not to eat anything in the land but yielded to the voice of the old prophet who lied to him with a view to destroying him? When he heeded the voice of the liar, he ended up being destroyed. The ministry of the liar is that of the devil – destruction. Don’t get destroyed. Hearken to God and not men. They have no good intention for you. Disregard them.

SOLUTION: Always heed the instruction that come to you directly from the Lord. No matter the height or position of man, never take his/their position instead of that of God.

In the name of Jesus Christ, every plan and attempt by the enemy to cause us to offend God shall fail forthwith. The power to overcome the devices of the enemy, we receive now in Jesus’ name. The grace to do and accomplish the purpose of God for our lives we receive now in Jesus’ name. Success all the way, in Jesus’ name.
