Overrunning Troops

Focus: Psalms 18:29 – KJV: For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

For every believer, there is an assurance of ultimate, supernatural victory over the battles of life, for the one we depend on, our Ally, is the Lord of Hosts Himself: the one who is strong and mighty, who is mighty in battle. There is never a being that can thump him in the chest to challenge His capabilities. It is only by Him that we live and have our being. Everyone who fails to succumb to Him puts himself at the mercy of the wicked one whose ultimate aim is destruction.

While David and his men were away, a ruthless troop of Amalekites raided their home city of Ziklag. They burned the city to the ground and took all the women and children captive. When David returned, his men were so broken by grief that they threatened to stone him to death. Rather than panick, David encouraged himself in the LORD his God who is mighty in battle, and God gave him a green light. After said and done, David completely broke the enemy troop and recovered absolutely everything that had been stolen without a single person or possession missing. By his God, David ran right through the troop. While Nehemiah is famous for literally building a physical wall, his story is the ultimate spiritual example of using God’s power to leap over massive, seemingly insurmountable barriers of political, financial, and psychological opposition.

Our God is practically the same, yesterday, today and forever. What He did for David and Nehemiah then, He can do for us also, and even much more, since we are in the advent of the Holy Spirit, unlike those mentioned characters. What troop is confronting you and asking to know where the Lord you serve is; or what walls are standing as obstacles that you need to scale? The Lord is reassuring us today that He is our sufficiency and that He would surely carry us through if we will lean on Him, alone.

Prayer:

Father, I thank you for being my help and my fortress. Please do not allow the enemy to ever have the upper hand in my affairs. Anything I may do to break the hedge of your defense around me, do not let me ever do it. Keep me covered and supported in every battle of life to the very end, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
